What are your areas of expertise?
Of course all are welcome but I spent a lot of time in couples counselling and a lot of time counselling with men. In couples counselling I provide education and practice in creating good conflict and good communication. I do this through the model by Dr. John Gottman and Dr. Julie Shwartz.
In men’s counselling we are often looking at how dependencies have developed and how to manage them better and eventual manage without them. My preferred model for work in this area is the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy model that was developed by Dr. Stephen Hayes.

How long will I need to come to counselling before I feel better?
It depends on a lot of factors. Very often clients do feel some relief after the first session. The validation and acceptance of a professional, can have the effect of making us feel connected and accepted and that can be therapeutic.
What type of training do you have?
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Ottawa University and a Masters Degree in Pastoral Counselling. I have done numerous extra trainings in the Gottman Model for Couples Counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness and Self-Compassion.
Does Religion/Spirituality play a role in my counselling?
It always depends on the preference of the client. The content and direction of session is determined by the client and we discuss what you would like to discuss.
What is the process of counselling like?
The first 1 to 3 sessions are a lot of questions and getting to know each other. There are also a lot of questions about the issues that a client is currently dealing with. All this is to assess how the work together should proceed. From there, together, we talk about the relevant issues and plan together about how we can try and make some positive changes.
What are your hours of operation?
I have some evening and daytime availability as well as Saturdays. I am open to discussing any questions or concerns that you may have before you make any decisions about booking an appointment
What is the cost of sessions?
I subcontract a few different offices and depending on the office that suits you, the costs change a little. Individual sessions range from $140-$150 plus HST. And couples’ sessions range from $150-$175 plus HST.
Will my insurance cover the cost of services?
I employ the services of Registered Social Workers as my supervisors to have my clients gain insurance coverage for my services.
While I am a member of the Ontario Association Mental Health Professionals and a Member of the Canadian Counselling Association, I do not maintain a registration with a specific Psychotherapy or Social Work Association.
I ask that you speak with your insurance provider. before booking an appointment, to ensure your coverage.

How do I pay for my counselling sessions?
All the offices have a payment terminal on site so that you may pay by Debit or Credit. Cash or e-transfer is also an option.
Will I be asked to do assignments in between sessions?
We work together to see what works for you. If you are someone who likes to complete exercises then I will have some to provide. If you prefer to read material or listen to some audio learning, then I would offer direction on that as well. And if you prefer to not complete tasks in between sessions then that is fine with me as well.
