Acceptance and Commitment TherapyRegarding Individual Counselling, I draw on insights from a model called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy developed by Dr. Stephen Hayes. The approach draws on different theories in the areas of Cognitive-Behavioural as well as Mindfulness, to help people live in accordance with their values.
Ideally, I like individual clients to be able to meet every week for approximately 3 weeks, while we assess and get comfortable, and then I find that clients benefit from putting more weeks between their sessions and develop themselves in between sessions. Session frequency is always in the control of the client. The content of the sessions is always at the discretion of the client as well. I may encourage certain discussions or contemplation, but in the end it is the client’s decision on what gets discussed. Some clients feel that they want to focus on present circumstances and deal with them better to create a better future. Others may feel that they want to revisit the past to better understand their interpretation of situations to have a better perspective for future events in their lives. |
